SmartEdge 100
The SmartEdge MSER family unifies three sets of functionality into a single, multi-functional platform including edge routing, Ethernet aggregation, and subscriber management. Each of these capabilities is well developed and highly tuned for its specific functional role within the Triple Play network. Building on years of proven deployments, SmartEdge MSERs can be deployed in a stand-alone role, such as edge routing or subscriber management, or as a unified, multi-function platform that cost-effectively consolidates elements of the Ethernet aggregation network layer. Edge and Service Routing SmartEdge MSERs deliver the comprehensive and proven IP routing foundation required for the evolving Triple Play broadband network deployments. Engineered for availability and optimized for scalability, SmartEdge MSERs deliver robust support for a comprehensive range of interior and exterior gateway routing protocols with the latest feature extensions for IPv4, IPv6, Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS, H-VPLS) and Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) implementations, with predictable and sustained performance. Routing protocol support includes Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS), Dynamic Verifi ed Static Routes, Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), and RIP and Static Routes. Support for high-performance multicast routing is provided, including protocol independent multicasting (PIM), Internet group management protocol (IGMP) and multicast routing. The SmartEdge platform is equally suitable for deployment in peering, edge aggregation and services routing applications. Ethernet Aggregation SmartEdge MSERs offer a comprehensive range of advanced Ethernet interfaces to enable the consolidation of the Ethernet aggregation layer into the network edge. In addition to native Ethernet aggregation, the SmartEdge MSERs support the full suite of Ethernet Switching and scaling protocols such as, Q-n-Q, VPLS, H-VPLS. SmartEdge MSER delivers Advanced Traffic Management with Hierarchical Quality of Service (H-QoS), comprehensive traffic shaping and subscriber management, with flexible assignment of control mechanisms, priorities and services on a per-subscriber basis. Consequently, SmartEdge MSERs can be directly connected to an access layer of the network, such as a DSLAM, eliminating unnecessary network layers and reducing complexity. Additionally, SmartEdge 100 MSER based solutions enable the smooth migration from Asynchronous Transport Mode (ATM) aggregation networks to Ethernet services by accommodating the co-existence of both ATM and Ethernet connectivity and supporting seamless service sharing in the same chassis. Subscriber Management (B-RAS) SmartEdge MSERs apply user configuration and management policies to individual data streams on a per-subscriber, personalized basis–even when thousands of subscribers are being transported over the same physical network port. By applying this level of control to all network traffic, subscriber management functionality becomes a virtualized network function so the network actively participates in application and service delivery. SmartEdge MSERs support up to 48,000 subscribers per physical device and include all methods of subscriber encapsulation for DHCP or IP-access clients, including PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE). In addition, SmartEdge MSERs support Client-Less IP Subscribers (CLIPS) environments, without requiring PPPoE usernames for DHCP environments. This enables service providers to enhance subscriber retention and increase the Average-Revenue-Per-Subscriber (ARPU) through the introduction of value-added services.
