SMS 1800

Redback’s flagship SMS 1800 and SMS 10000 products address service providers needs for aggregating and managing thousands of broadband subscribers. Deployed at service providers' points of presence (POPs), the SMS 1800 and SMS 10000 products accepts a large concentration of broadband subscriber traffic from layer-1 and layer-2 network-access-equipment such as DSL access multiplexers (DSLAMs), cable modem termination systems (CMTS) and wireless access-points and deliver groomed IP subscriber traffic to providers' backbone routers.

With the SL version of SMS platforms SMS 1800SL and SMS 10000SL, Redback delivers a "generational" enhancement to the SMS platforms which multiples the performance by 2 to 3 times. The SL version is made possible by a re-architected forwarding system called the XFE. The XFE brings the service delivery capabilities to the next level for the SMS product and allows service providers to drive up the average revenue per subscriber through the introduction of value added services such as: Tiered bandwidth (BW), BW on Demand, volume and time based services and dynamic service selection. The SMS 1800SL & SMS 10000SL products provide investment protection through seamless integration into existing network and OSS systems and have effectively zero operational impact upon installation.

As they evolve their networks to deliver IP aware services, native multiport 10/100/1000 Ethernet interfaces on the XFE, enable service providers to migrate their layer 2 networks from being ATM centric to becoming Ethernet centric and thereby realizing the lower costs and higher performance of this topology.
