SMS 10000Redback’s flagship SMS 1800 and SMS 10000 products address service providers needs for aggregating and managing thousands of broadband subscribers. Deployed at service providers' points of presence (POPs), the SMS 1800 and SMS 10000 products accepts a large concentration of broadband subscriber traffic from layer-1 and layer-2 network-access-equipment such as DSL access multiplexers (DSLAMs), cable modem termination systems (CMTS) and wireless access-points and deliver groomed IP subscriber traffic to providers' backbone routers.With the SL version of SMS platforms SMS 1800SL and SMS 10000SL, Redback delivers a "generational" enhancement to the SMS platforms which multiples the performance by 2 to 3 times. The SL version is made possible by a re-architected forwarding system called the XFE. The XFE brings the service delivery capabilities to the next level for the SMS product and allows service providers to drive up the average revenue per subscriber through the introduction of value added services such as: Tiered bandwidth (BW), BW on Demand, volume and time based services and dynamic service selection. The SMS 1800SL & SMS 10000SL products provide investment protection through seamless integration into existing network and OSS systems and have effectively zero operational impact upon installation. As they evolve their networks to deliver IP aware services, native multiport 10/100/1000 Ethernet interfaces on the XFE, enable service providers to migrate their layer 2 networks from being ATM centric to becoming Ethernet centric and thereby realizing the lower costs and higher performance of this topology. Important information regarding the SMS 1000 family: This shall serve as official notification to you of Redback’s end-of-sale for the SMS 10000 and SMS 10000SL platforms. This announcement pertains to all hardware and software components for the SMS 10000/10000SL platforms. Redback Networks is discontinuing these products for several reasons, including:Sub-component availability (supply chain) issues Migration to next generation platform technology Redback Networks recommends that customers currently using SMS10000 systems migrate to Redback’s next generation SmartEdge® platform. The SmartEdge product family, consisting of the SE1200, SE800, SE400, and SE100, provide unparalleled carrier-class price/performance in form factors to meet any carrier’s needs. The SmartEdge family integrates three key functions into a single, multi-functional platform including edge routing, Ethernet aggregation, and subscriber management. Each of these capabilities is well developed and highly tuned for its specific functional role within the Triple Play network. Building on years of proven deployments, SmartEdge routers can be deployed in a stand-alone role, such as edge routing or subscriber management, or as a unified, multi-function platform that cost-effectively consolidates elements of the Ethernet aggregation network layer.The SMS 10000 and SMS 10000SL platforms and components will remain available to customers for last time buy orders placed through March 30, 2008. Redback Networks will continue to support the products in software & hardware until June 30, 2009. Product support will continue for customers with support contracts without lapse until June 31, 2008.
