Important information regarding the SMS 1000 family: This shall serve as official notification to you of Redback’s end-of-sale for the SMS 10000 and SMS 10000SL platforms. This announcement pertains to all hardware and software components for the SMS 10000/10000SL platforms. Redback Networks is discontinuing these products for several reasons, including:Sub-component availability (supply chain) issues Migration to next generation platform technology Redback Networks recommends that customers currently using SMS10000 systems migrate to Redback’s next generation SmartEdge® platform. The SmartEdge product family, consisting of the SE1200, SE800, SE400, and SE100, provide unparalleled carrier-class price/performance in form factors to meet any carrier’s needs. The SmartEdge family integrates three key functions into a single, multi-functional platform including edge routing, Ethernet aggregation, and subscriber management. Each of these capabilities is well developed and highly tuned for its specific functional role within the Triple Play network. Building on years of proven deployments, SmartEdge routers can be deployed in a stand-alone role, such as edge routing or subscriber management, or as a unified, multi-function platform that cost-effectively consolidates elements of the Ethernet aggregation network layer.The SMS 10000 and SMS 10000SL platforms and components will remain available to customers for last time buy orders placed through March 30, 2008. Redback Networks will continue to support the products in software & hardware until June 30, 2009.
