Redback Announces 70+ Carriers Deploying the SmartEdge 100 Multi-Service Edge Router
Redback’s Smallest Router is Used for Small- to Medium-size Markets, Carriers Serving Multi-Dwelling Units, and Mobile Operators San Jose, Calif., September 12, 2007 – Redback Networks Inc., an Ericsson company that makes video-centric routers for 75 percent of the world’s largest triple-play networks, today announced that more than 70 carrier customers have deployed the SmartEdge® 100 multi-service edge router, making it one of the fastest growing routers in the industry.
The SmartEdge 100 was introduced in March 2006 and is Redback’s smallest all-in-one router for data, voice and video services. Over the last 18 months, the SmartEdge 100 has been deployed by more than 70+ carrier customers in 35 countries. Typical network applications include a mix of residential and business services for multi-dwelling units, broadband access for small- to medium-size markets, and wireless backhaul routing for mobile operators. The SmartEdge 100 cost-effectively addresses several unique parts of the larger $9.8 billion multi-service edge routing market.
“The SmartEdge 100 is an ideal solution for carriers in emerging markets, as well as for all carriers providing broadband service to multi-dwelling buildings,” said Simon Williams, VP of product management, business development and strategy for Redback Networks. “As part of Ericsson, we also expect the SmartEdge 100 will be more extensively used by mobile operators, where Internet access is delivered to mobile devices, not just wireline PCs.”
Telephone carriers have deployed the SmartEdge 100 in the following countries: Armenia, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Guadeloupe, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Israel, Korea, Malaysia, Martinique, Mexico Morocco, Netherlands, Philippines, Reunion, Romania, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States. The SmartEdge 100 uses the same operating system as Redback’s larger routers, and supports many of the same network applications for data, voice and video services.
