Redback Earns Technology Award from Frost & Sullivan

Redback’s Multi-Service Edge Platform Receives Award for Excellence in Next-Generation Services Infrastructure

San Jose, Calif., July 26, 2007 – Redback Networks Inc., an Ericsson company that makes video-centric routers for 75 percent of the world’s largest triple-play networks, today announced it has received an award for Global Excellence in Technology from Frost & Sullivan, a leading global growth consulting company.  

Redback was recognized for its SmartEdge® 1200 multi-service edge router in the category of Next-Generation Services Infrastructure. This award is one of five awards the SmartEdge 1200 has won since it was introduced June 4, 2007.  The SmartEdge 1200 has introduced the first million subscriber rack for triple-play services such as HDTV, HD VoD and broadband mobility.  

“Receiving Frost and Sullivan’s Global Excellence in Technology Award is a testament to the significant resources we have placed in development of the SmartEdge product line,” said Arpit Joshipura, Vice President of Product Management for Redback. “In five years, we believe more than 2 billion wireless and wireline users will be upgraded to video-centric broadband networks from 250 million broadband users today.”

SmartEdge 1200 has been honored with five industry awards since its June 4 launch, including the innovative router platform at the 2007 NXTComm trade show as well as the TMC Labs Innovation award presented by Internet Telephony magazine. The SmartEdge 1200 platform introduces three major innovations.  It doubles carrier capacity for new video upgrades, extends triple-play services to broadband mobile networks and integrates up to six network applications into a single router.  The SmartEdge 1200 also introduces three new network applications, including deep-packet inspection for peer-to-peer traffic management, advanced session border control capabilities and network security for carriers and their customers.
