Centennial Wireless Paves Way to All-IP Network with Addition of Redback SmartEdge Routers

San Jose, Calif. – August 25, 2008 – Redback Networks Inc., an Ericsson company (NASDAQ: ERIC) that develops IP-based routers and switches for 75+ percent of the world’s largest operators, today announced that Centennial Wireless, a provider of mobile communications in the United States, will expand its existing Ericsson Mobile Packet Backbone Network solution through the introduction of Redback SmartEdge® multi-service edge routers.

The implementation of SmartEdge routers addresses Centennial’s objective to deploy IP infrastructure capable of supporting a standards-based evolution towards all-IP, a move which is expected to reduce CAPEX and OPEX expenditures and enable telecom-quality broadband packet data services. The immediate steps in this evolution are the introduction of IP transport for Mobile Softswitch and WCDMA traffic.

“Centennial selected the SmartEdge 400 as a strategic addition to its network for its ability to accelerate new service deployments, and simplify network design and operations,” said Bob Millspaugh, AVP, Network Engineering at Centennial Wireless. “We pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality service to more than one million wireless customers, and by deploying the SmartEdge, we’re ensuring we can deliver on this promise today and in the future.”

“Centennial Wireless is an important win for Redback,” said John Spiliotis, vice president, Americas sales and operations at Redback Networks. “The deployment of Mobile-PBN in North America emphasizes the demand for proven and reliable IP infrastructure for mobile operators, and the immediate need for a solution that can efficiently scale to address rapidly increasing broadband packet data volumes.”

An established U.S. operator since 1988, Centennial Communications Corp. has 13 million Net Pops, 1.1 million wireless customers and 475,000 access line equivalents.
