Redback Managing Fifty-Five Percent of 12.8 Million DSL Subscribers in France;
More Than 21 Million Broadband Subscribers in Europe, Middle East and Africa

San Jose, CA, August 14, 2007 – Redback Networks, an Ericsson company that makes video-centric routers for 75 percent of the world’s largest triple-play networks, today announced that its SmartEdge® multi-service edge routers are delivering triple-play services to 7+ million broadband subscribers in France, more than any network router vendor.
In greater Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Redback manages 21+ million broadband subscribers today, including 7+ million in France, 5.5+ million in the United Kingdom, 3.5+ million in Germany, 3+ million in Turkey and 1+ million in Belgium.  Across EMEA, Redback routers help telephone carriers manage a variety of data, voice and video services, also known as triple-play services.  Typical network applications managed by SmartEdge routers in EMEA include broadband access (e.g. high-speed Internet service), edge routing (e.g. VoIP service) and Ethernet aggregation (e.g. TV and other video services).

More Than 500 Routing Platforms Deployed for More than 23 Carriers in France

In France, Redback has deployed more than 500 broadband routing platforms since 2001.  Redback actively manages triple-play subscribers for more than 23 wireline and wireless carriers in France, including the largest DSL and mobile carriers in France.  

EMEA (21M+ managed subscribers) is Redback’s second largest router market, behind greater Asia (27M+ managed subscribers), but ahead of the U.S. (15M+ managed subscribers).  Redback routers today manage 63 million triple-play subscribers.  Redback has added 23 million broadband subscribers since the end of 2005, a 58 percent increase from about 40 million subscribers in 2005.  In the future, Redback and its parent company Ericsson, the world’s largest maker of telecom equipment, have the opportunity to upgrade up to 2 billion wireless and wireline customers to full service broadband by 2011.

Top wireline carriers deploying SmartEdge routers include AT&T, British Telecom, China Telecom, China Netcom, ChungHwa Telecom (Taiwan), eAccess (Japan), France Telecom, Korea Telecom, Telefonica, and Turk Telecom, among the more than 200 carriers worldwide.
