Redback at Center of One of Largest IPTV Deployments in Europe
Belgacom of Belgium Hits 140.000 IPTV Subscriber Mark

San Jose, CA, April 17, 2007 –– Redback Networks Inc., an Ericsson company that makes video-centric routers for 75 percent of the world’s triple-play networks, today announced that Redback is helping Belgacom deliver IPTV to nearly 140.000 subscribers, making Belgacom one of the three largest IPTV deployments in Europe and one of the top 10 IPTV deployments in the world.

Belgacom is the largest telephone company in Belgium and its IPTV deployment is a testament to the flexibility, reliability and scalability of Redback’s SmartEdge® routing platform.  The SmartEdge uses a single box and modular operating system to deliver IPTV services for Belgacom.   The SmartEdge is a video-centric router that can deliver HD video to tens of thousands of simultaneous users, in addition to data and voice services.

Fifteen of the top 20 telephone carriers worldwide use SmartEdge routers for digital broadband, phone and TV services.  Top carriers using SmartEdge include British Telecom, Belgacom, BellSouth, China Telecom, China Netcom, Chunghwa Telecom (Taiwan), eAccess (Japan) France Telecom, Korea Telecom and Turk Telecom.
