Press Release

KPN Selects Lucent Technologies and Redback Networks to Support its Video on Demand Service Lucent Worldwide Services supplies and maintains IPTV equipment to support new services delivery for KPN´s customers

MURRAY HILL, N.J. / HILVERSUM, February 28, 2006- The Netherlands – Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) has been selected by KPN to provide the Dutch operator with equipment and services for advanced IPTV services. Under the contract, Lucent Worldwide Services is integrating Redback Networks’ (NASDAQ: RBAK) IPTV hardware and software into KPN´s broadband access network and conducting maintenance services for the IPTV section of the network.

KPN plans to roll-out countrywide IPTV services for their ADSL customers, thus enhancing their triple play strategy. In that way, KPN will further enhance their position in the Internet and TV market. Already today KPN is providing their customers with a digital wireless TV service.

KPN’s new VoD service, an ADSL2+ based IP video service, will be available in the first half of 2006.

Lucent is supplying SmartEdge® Service Gateways from Redback Networks Inc., whose SmartEdge Service Gateway systems have been recently added to LWS´ services portfolio to provide IP aggregation infrastructure for KPN’s new Video on Demand (VoD) service.

Redback’s SmartEdge platform performs the high density and high bandwidth Ethernet aggregation including 10 Gigabit Ethernet support. Combined with the carrier class routing and consumer scale subscriber management functions, KPN is able to offer highly personalized video services to its extensive customer base.

"KPN and Lucent Technologies have cooperated closely on a large number of projects in recent years", says Joost Farwerck, Director Wholesale Services & Operations at KPN. "Also, Lucent Worldwide Services has provided us world-class service and support. It is for these reasons that we selected Lucent as a supplier of third party IPTV equipment and for servicing the IPTV part of our access network. Our IPTV initiative is very ambitious, as we want to offer our customers something quite different from the regular broadcasting offerings, through new services like Video on Demand which are coming soon. This requires a stable and reliable network infrastructure which Lucent will provide.”

"With this agreement, LWS underlines its expertise in designing, integrating and maintaining IPTV solutions for broadband networks. We are steadily expanding our portfolio with state of the art third-party solutions, which enable our clients to grow and add new services to their offerings”, says Huub de Klerk, vice president Sales North Europe at Lucent Technologies. "We are looking forward to collaborate with KPN to make this project a success.”

“With this agreement, we are pleased that Lucent and KPN have selected our proven SmartEdge platform to provide reliable video-on-demand services to KPN’s subscribers in the Netherlands,” said Georges Antoun, senior vice president of worldwide field operations at Redback Networks.
