Redback Networks Names John Spiliotis as Vice President of Americas Industry veteran joins to manage expansion and accelerating revenue growth 

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 20, 2005 – Redback Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: RBAK), a leading provider of next-generation broadband networking systems, today announced the appointment of John Spiliotis to the position of vice president of sales and operations for the Americas.

“In my more than 20 years in sales I have rarely seen a sales executive with such strong strategic and leadership abilities. I believe John can drive our field organization and revenues to the next level of performance,” said Kevin DeNuccio, president and chief executive officer, Redback Networks.

Spiliotis brings over 20 years of industry experience to Redback networks with a solid track record of building strong teams and achieving excellent results. He joins Redback most recently from Extreme Networks where he was the vice president for North America. Prior to Extreme, from 1997 to 2001, he was at Cisco Systems where he held various management positions including that of vice president of Service Provider Channels and vice president of ILEC sales. He started his sales career at IBM and Amdahl. Spiliotis holds a BA degree from the Citadel and an MBA from Hofstra University.

In accordance with NASDAQ Marketplace Rule 4350, Redback granted inducement stock options for Spiliotis. The options are classified as non-qualified stock options with an exercise price equal to fair market value on the date of grant and have a ten-year term. Spiliotis' grant is for 150,000 shares and provides for 25 percent vesting of his shares upon completion of one year of service, with the balance vesting in monthly installments over 36 months, and a 12 month acceleration of vesting if the company experiences a change of control.
