Redback Networks Partners With Orca Interactive To Enhance IP-TV Integrated Solution Eases Deployment of High Quality, Personalized Video over Broadband
LAS VEGAS, Nevada, Telecom 04, October 13, 2004 – Redback Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: RBAK), a leading provider of next-generation broadband networking systems, and Orca Interactive (LSE: ORCA), an Emblaze Group company and a global market leader in developing applications for TV over IP, today announced a business alliance partnership for enabling personalized, high quality broadcast television or video on demand services over broadband networks by integrating communication between Redback's NetOp™ Policy Manager and Orca Interactive's RiGHTv middleware software applications for video services. The communication between the products can enable Quality of Service (QoS) and provisioning of service guarantees on a per subscriber basis according to content requirements, network capabilities and subscriber preference. The capability would make it possible for service providers to ensure a high quality video experience for consumers. "Video is becoming a primary force in next-generation broadband networks," said Dr. Ray Mota, chief research officer, Synergy Research. "Integrating the power of intelligent subscriber management and full quality of service with comprehensive video middleware eases IPTV deployments and enriches them with support of high quality delivery capabilities." "Redback Networks has pioneered the area of broadband subscriber management and has constantly worked to advance its capabilities," said Yosi Glick vice president of marketing and business development for Orca Interactive. "We are pleased to combine our market-leading expertise in video services middleware with Redback's third generation of broadband subscriber management and edge routing for solutions that deliver consumers choices in quality, cost and immediacy." Currently, video over broadband solutions have no involvement with the setting of Quality of Service or managing levels of service. With the combined solutions in operation, a service provider could deliver video content with appropriate quality and reliability to individual subscribers. In addition, a service provider could offer choices of service levels to consumers. The combined solution from Orca Interactive and Redback Networks could identify a particular subscriber, understand the content requirements and service profile for each subscriber and signal the content provider and video delivery infrastructure, notifying billing systems and automatically adjusting the subscriber's bandwidth and service guarantees. The combined solution is available now with the Redback SmartEdge Service Gateway platforms. "We are proud to work with Orca Interactive, an IPTV middleware leader for enhanced entertainment applications and services, such as broadcast and video on demand," said Shailesh Shukla, vice president of marketing and business development for Redback Networks. "Together, we believe we can set a new standard for delivering video over broadband with new levels of quality, personalization and price for the consumer and new potential for incremental revenue for service providers."
