WEEE Policy
European Union Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
In January 2003, the European Union adopted an important environmental directive -- the Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). In combination with the EU Directive on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), these directives represent an important milestone in providing a cleaner environment.
The WEEE Directive obliges manufacturers, importers, and/or distributors of electronic equipment to label the equipment for recycling; to register in each EU country in accordance with the rules adopted to implement the WEEE Directive; and to provide for recycling of the electronic equipment at the end of its useful life.
Redback Networks WEEE Policy
Redback Networks products are fully compliant with Directive 2002/96/EC on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) for all applicable geographies in the European Union. Redback Networks is committed to complying with the WEEE Directive by supporting its EU partner resellers. The EU “importers of record” of Redback Networks products have the responsibility to register any products that they import and to establish a take-back program in their respective EU country for the proper dismantling and recycling of Redback Networks products.
In accordance with the requirements of the WEEE Directive, Redback Networks has since August 13, 2005 labeled products placed on the market with the WEEE symbol, a crossed-out "wheelie bin" symbol with a black rectangle underneath, as shown below.
